Cardinal Health will enable the acquisition by providing about $1.9 billion in cash to The Specialty Alliance and will own about 75% of The Specialty Alliance after the acquisition of Solaris Health, Cardinal Health said in a Tuesday (Aug. 12) press release.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, according to the release.

The acquisition of Solaris Health will extend the reach of The Specialty Alliance, building on the acquisitions of Urology America, Potomac Urology and Academic Urology & Urogynecology, the release said.

Solaris Health supports more than 750 providers in 250 practice locations and 14 states, per the release. The addition of these providers will extend the reach of Cardinal Health’s MSO platforms to about 3,000 providers in 32 states.

“Accelerating Specialty growth remains our top priority,” Cardinal Health CEO Jason Hollar said in the release. “As we previously highlighted, urology is an attractive specialty for us, and we are well-positioned to meet the comprehensive needs of community urologists through the robust combined capabilities of The Specialty Alliance, Specialty Networks and Cardinal Health.”

Solaris Health CEO Gary Kirsh, MD, said in the release: “Joining The Specialty Alliance’s Urology Alliance strengthens our ability to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care through a physician-led, national platform. This partnership expands our collaborative network of urology providers, allowing physicians to optimize care delivery and enhance patient access to specialized services in their local communities.”

Cardinal Health announced this acquisition on the same day it reported its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2025 results.

The company said in an earnings release that its fourth quarter revenues of $60.2 billion were relatively flat year over year and its fiscal year 2025 revenues of $222.6 billion were down 2% from the previous fiscal year.

In a May earnings release, Cardinal Health reported that its GI Alliance MSO platform agreed to acquire Urology America and Potomac Urology. The company said that with these moves, the company bolstered its multi-specialty MSO platform by entering into the urology therapeutic area and furthered “its strategy to support physician-led practices and deliver superior patient outcomes.”
