Dragon Age The Veilguard Difficulty modes – which one to pick

Whether you have played a Dragon Age game before or not, it’s always good to know what you might be up against when starting out in a new iteration of the franchise. It has been a good while since the last Dragon Age game but now we have Dragon Age: The Veilguard, many people, new and old are visiting BioWare’s famous old franchise.

Not all gamers are built the same however and we all prefer differing kinds of experiences on our playthroughs. The Veilguard offers up six different Difficulty modes, which is a lot to process so let’s have a look at which you should go for.

In true BioWare style, the devs have tried to give the players everything they may need when it comes to getting the most out of the game. Here we get five pre-set difficulty levels and a sixth which is totally customizable, so if you are finding certain sections of gameplay more awkward than others, you can tone them down without affecting the playthrough overall. Cool.

The difficulty modes are:

• Storyteller
• Keeper
• Adventurer
• Underdog
• Nightmare
• Unbound

Unbound is the most interesting setting as it is the one where you can customize lots of different areas. The areas that you can tweak to your heart’s desire are:

• Aim Assist
• Aim Snap
• Combat Timing
• Enemy Aggression
• Enemy Damage
• Enemy Health
• Enemy Resistances
• Enemy Vulnerability
• Prevent Death

The other modes are generally self-explanatory with Storyteller being nice and kind if you are the type of player who wants to experience the story of the game without getting frustrated by dying all the time. Meanwhile, Nightmare is exactly that – only for the hardcore of players out there. If you are proficient at previous Dragon Age titles then you may want to start with this one.

If you play games lots then there is certainly no harm in trying our Underdog to start with – especially as you can alter the setting if you find it a little too much.The enemies will take a little more killing but it offers a nice balance between challenge and story.

If you decide after a while that maybe you selected the wrong choice of difficulty, maybe you are finding combat too hard, or even too easy, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is one of those games that lets you tweak your difficulty settings mid-game. You can simply go to the menu and re-select the Difficulty you want and the game will scale itself accordingly. This is especially handy if you come across one part that, for whatever reason, you just cannot get past.
