Power strips are generally pretty boring. You plug stuff into them, then you try your best to hide the strip along with all of the cables feeding into it. But Genki’s Moonbase is meant to be displayed loud and proud on your desk. The retrofuturism-inspired strip we wrote about at the end of last year when it was announced has three AC plugs (1,250W max power), plus four USB-C ports that can output up to 240W of total power (one USB-C port can go up to 140W with the right cable that’s not included with purchase). You can grab one at Amazon in orange/white or blue/black for $89.99. This is the first price cut on the product, which originally sold for $119.99 (it’s pricier through Genki’s site, where it sells for $139.99).

USB-C cables not included, unfortunately.

Where to Buy:
In case the default glowing color surrounding each of the AC plugs isn’t your jam, there’s a touch-sensitive button near where the 1.5-meter braided cable connects that allows you to toggle the hue. And, yes, in case you were curious, they can be switched off. The Moonbase is a great do-it-all power strip. What it lacks in a large number of AC plugs, it makes up for with style and plentiful USB-C ports.
Here’s The Verge’s Sean Hollister showing you all the things he uses the Moonbase for:
@verge Has there ever been a more stylish power strip? The $129 Genki Moonbase looks like it belongs on a starship, with three glowing multi-color AC outlets (and four USB-C connectors!) The USB-C ports top out at 140W, 100W, 30W and 30W, but you don’t lose too much of that wattage with four gadgets plugged in at once. My only real disappointment is the light-up Moonlink cables don’t help you find your phone in the dark. And it doesn’t look so nice when it’s covered in cords, of course. Genki sells it with EU, UK, and AU outlets as well. #todayimtoyingwith #tech #techtok #charger #gadgets

Other deals we think are worth your attention today
- If you’re shopping for someone who wants the $799 Apple Watch Ultra 3, first off, I’m sorry. That’s a really expensive gift! I recommend snagging the previous-generation model today at Best Buy while it’s $549 in multiple color schemes. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 also debuted at $799 in late 2023, but this discount might be worth considering if you feel like the recipient won’t care about missing a couple of features. That includes slightly improved battery life, slightly faster recharging, emergency SOS via satellite, and dual speakers (see all specs compared here). The durability and 49mm design were not changed generation to generation. Here are our reviews of the Ultra 3 and of the Ultra 2.
- It’s also possible that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is on a wish list, even if it’s your own. The faithful modern remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 in the early aughts looks phenomenal (and plays mostly how you may remember, design warts and all), and it’s $39.99 (originally $69.99) at Best Buy for all of Monday, or until stock sells out, on disc for PS5 and Xbox Series X. This discount is great for console players, who typically don’t see price falls as quickly as those who play PC games via Steam. Read our review.
- I still get whiplash when I see a desktop GPU selling at, or slightly below, MSRP. The most recent occurrence came from seeing PNY’s RTX 5070 with 12GB of VRAM selling at Walmart for $499. This is currently the best price on an RTX 5070 — a pretty good GPU for gaming at 1440p resolution, especially with some upscaling assistance via DLSS. If you’re building a PC, or upgrading from a GPU that’s a few generations old, the RTX 5070 is a good upgrade if your expectations are in the right place. Nvidia billed the 5070 as delivering RTX 4090 performance for $549. We were skeptical, and our RTX 5070 review highlights that it’s not an accurate statement when comparing the GPUs in an apples-to-apples manner. The 5070 supports multi-frame generation, allowing it to produce more “fake” AI-generated frames, at the expense of input latency that may not be noticeable if you don’t play fast-paced games.
