This laptop expands from 14 to 18 inches at the push of a button

Compal’s Infinite Laptop concept transforms from a 14-inch ultraportable to an 18-inch ultrawide workstation at the push of a button. The horizontal rollable screen prototype sidesteps Lenovo’s vertical-first approach while snagging a 2025 iF Design Award.

Lenovo debuted the industry’s first rollable laptop at CES 2025: the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which expands vertically from 14 inches to 16.7 inches. Compal’s design prioritizes width over height, targeting traders and multi-screen warriors who crave horizontal real estate.

The aluminum-clad concept weighs under 3.3 pounds despite its expanding mechanism. Its flexible OLED panel stretches symmetrically from both sides, maintaining structural integrity through reinforced hinges and layered polymer composites.

  • Touchpad design: A dimly glowing strip replaces physical borders for the touchpad, potentially reducing visual clutter for coders and designers.
  • Notifications: Laser-etched LED arrays embedded in the lid pulse for calendar reminders, message alerts, and system updates.
  • Awards pedigree: Compal’s concept beat 10,915 entries from 66 nations in the 2025 iF Design Awards, judged by 131 industry experts.
