After a fairly disastrous (and unexpected) launch for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are things starting to settle down for the next-generation flight simulator? Having seen servers swamped by far more players than Microsoft had budgeted for (they had run tests with up to 200,000 users simulated but that turned out to be woefully low) the toxic Steam Army took to their keyboards and review-bombed the game like it was The Day Before.
Fair enough, you pays your money, and you expect to be able to play the game, but review-bombing is pointless in the extreme, especially when it’s not actually the game you are slating but the fact you can’t get into it for a few hours.
That said, it was a huge misstep by Microsoft and Asabo. The ridiculous pre-install being around 10 meg and then everybody having to download gigs at the same time was insanity.
But now, with dust settling and virtual pilots keen to see improvements we have a patch that not only will address some issues, but some advice on how PC players can speed up insufferable loading times.
The Community folder is where downloads, scenery, and add-ons are kept and the advice is to move it from the install folder somewhere else and then change the location in the options. This is a slight pain but it seems to be some older, outdated packages seem to be causing the problem. Below you can find the advice in full.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Patch Notes 1.1.9.0“If you are playing on PC, outdated packages in your Community Folder may have an unexpected impact on the title’s performance and behavior. If you suffer from stability issues or long loading times, move your Community package(s) to another folder before relaunching the title.”
