The return of Severance on Apple TV+ has proved to be extremely successful for the company as Season 2 has just set a new record.
In an exclusive, Deadline reports that the show has become the platform’s #1 series in history based on the number of unique viewers from January 17 to February 17, 2025.
It has logged a huge 589 million minutes of views in the United States over all existing episodes, with 28% of them spent on the opener of the second season. This figure is expected to climb even further as the episodes continue to be released weekly.

The show has also managed to knock off Ted Lasso’s record too. According to the Apple report, through Season 1 and Season 2, Severance has already amassed more viewers than any other series on the streaming service.
This includes the three seasons of Ted Lasso which has been Apple’s #1 most-watched series globally for a while now.
Subscriptions increase as Severance Season 2 is releasedWhile the numbers have been soaring, the show has proven to be a motivator for people to sign up to Apple TV+ too. There has been a +126% increase in new subscribers between January 1-19, 2025 versus December 1-19, 2024.
It’s clear that people worldwide are interested to catch up on this dystopian thriller, as Mark (Adam Scott) navigates his experiences at Lumon Industries.
Since its release on January 17, new episodes have been published weekly with this season coming almost two years after the first was aired. From the beginning of the new episodes, the show has been rated highly by reviewers.
“We have long admired Ben’s extraordinary gift for original and immersive storytelling, and with he and Dan at the helm, Severance has proven to be an extraordinary success and a cultural phenomenon,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV+, in the Deadline article.
“The series has become an obsession for audiences all over the world and we can’t wait for people to continue to experience all the masterful twists and turns as the rest of the season unfolds.”
