Spotify has introduced a new auto-curated playlist called Concerts Near You, designed to help users discover live performances by their favorite artists in their vicinity. This feature was announced as part of Spotify’s efforts to make artists more accessible to their audience.
The Concerts Near You playlist showcases tracks from popular artists who have upcoming shows near the user’s defined location. Although Spotify does not sell concert tickets directly, the playlist includes hotlinks to third-party ticket booking platforms for easy purchasing. Users can also view the show dates and venues by expanding the track information, and this information can be shared with friends.
This new playlist derives its recommendations based on the artists a user follows within the Spotify app and the location specified in the Live Events section. Users can access the playlist by searching for “Concerts” in the app or visiting the Live Events section. Additionally, a direct link can be saved for easy access to the playlist.
Charlie Hellman, Spotify’s VP and Global Head of Music Product, highlighted the significance of this feature, stating, “There’s nothing worse than realizing that your favorite artist played in your town last week. Concerts Near You solves that. This new playlist not only makes it easier for fans to find shows nearby, but it also gives artists a powerful new way of selling more tickets and filling venues with the audiences who love their music most.”
User feedback on the feature has been positive, with reports of available tickets for popular concerts, such as an Alan Walker show, indicating that the playlist may effectively assist users in avoiding the disappointment of missing local performances.
