Steam store pages will now show planned Early Access exit dates

Steam introduced a feature enabling developers to display the exact date their Early Access games will exit that phase and launch version 1.0 on store pages. The addition responds to developer requests for an official launch date display.

Early Access titles permit players to access preliminary versions of games, enabling them to experience initial stages and provide input that shapes ongoing development. Certain games, however, have lingered in Early Access for multiple years without progressing to full release.

The new functionality positions the specified launch information directly on the game’s Steam store page, immediately below the Early Access designation. This placement ensures visibility for prospective buyers reviewing the title’s status.

Developers possess flexibility in how they present this detail. They may select a precise calendar date, opt for a broader timeframe such as a season or quarter, or indicate solely the anticipated release year. Steam emphasizes that participation remains entirely voluntary.

In its official blog post announcement, Steam clarified the optional nature of the tool, stating verbatim, “just because this feature exists, does not mean you should or must use it.” The platform further cautioned developers against committing to firm dates without substantial certainty, recommending a concrete date only if they possess a “very high degree of confidence.”
