Sundar Pichai says Google’s ‘amazing progress’ in AI will define 2025

As 2025 begins, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that new AI products and features will be rolled out within the next few months in an email to employees, which was reported by 9to5Google.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announces new AI features for 2025

Pichai highlighted the “amazing progress” the company made in the previous year, concluding 2024 with the launch of Gemini 2.0, Willow, Veo 2, and various innovations across Google Search, YouTube, Cloud, Android, and Pixel. He stated that the foundation of their success stems from Google’s technical and AI leadership, driven by a full-stack approach.

He mentioned his review of demos for upcoming products and features, expressing confidence in maintaining momentum moving into 2025. Recently, Google began testing “Daily Listen” in Search Labs, which delivers personalized podcast content focusing on users’ interests.

“We ended 2024 on a super high note with Gemini 2.0, Willow, Veo 2, and lots of innovation across Search, YouTube, Cloud, Android, Pixel, and more. The foundation to all of this is our technical and AI leadership, made possible by our full stack approach, and people were inspired by what we built. As we start the year, I have been reviewing demos for the products and features we’re rolling out in the next few months. The progress is amazing, and I’m confident we will keep the momentum going in 2025,” reads the email shared by 9to5Google.

The artificial key to a better tomorrow

In December, Google announced that Gemini 2.0 Flash would become generally available to developers in January, potentially aligning with the removal of the “Experimental” status for the Gemini app. Additionally, further details are anticipated regarding “2.0 Experimental Advanced” for paid subscribers upon its launch.

Google One subscribers can expect the introduction of NotebookLM Plus in early 2025. Gemini 2.0 is also set to be integrated into more Google products, including AI Overviews in Search, early this year.

The timeframe for these developments aligns with Google I/O, typically held at the start of May. Pichai emphasized the urgency of the moment, the rapid evolution of technology, and the chance to reimagine Google’s products and processes for a new era.

In his message, Pichai also acknowledged the impact of devastating wildfires affecting thousands of Googlers in Southern California. Google has initiated an employee matching program and its philanthropic arm, Google.org, will provide support for relief and recovery efforts.

People in the wildfire-affected areas can access SOS Alerts, Public Alerts, and wildfire boundaries through Google Search and Maps. Road closure information is also available on Google Maps and Waze, which includes emergency shelter locations, with continuous updates from authoritative sources.
