Switch 2 – Nintendo drops new video – it’s here, it’s real and we want it

DATE POSTED:January 16, 2025
Switch 2

After all the drama of CES 2025 Nintendo itself has finally revealed it’s new Switch 2 console with a two-miniute video on the Nintendo YouTube channel showcasing the new console and now really going into much detail in the video at least which is titled “An update from Nintendo.”

You can check out the video yourself below with the key takeaway being that there is a Nintendo Direct on the 2nd April where we will get to see more by the looks of it and hopefully find out the price and release date, neither of which are contained in this teaser video.

What we do get to see for the first time proper however is the new Switch 2 logo which, to be fair looks rather smart. We are a fan for sure. While not a world away from the original it is modern enough to catch the eye in grey on black on the new Switch 2 and glossy black on matte black on the new Switch 2 dock.

It is unclear whether Nintendo always planned to announce today with a teaser video or whether its hand was forced by the furore at CES with peripheral maker Genki was seen to be freely showing off a dummy unit with its products attached.

What do we know about the Switch 2?

Since the Nintendo Switch 2 was first solidly rumored last year, Nintendo has had to deal with leak after leak and rumor after rumor ranging from what tech companies were providing for it down to whether it would be compatible with existing games or not. It now seems as though it will be, to some extent at least, but as for the tech inside it looks like we will have to wait until the Nintendo Direct – which will probably be the most watched ever – to see what the innards contain.

We did get a fleeting glimpse of our first Switch 2 game – Mario Kart, but again with no further details although it surely confirms Mario Kart as a launch game for the console.

If you want to see what we have spotted, you can check out the Nintendo Switch 2 from all angles on this page here.

As you can see from the image below, Nintendo has confirmed compatibility with older Switch games, with the caveat that it will not be all of them. The video dropped shortly after 1pm UK time and is already amassing thousands of views.
