We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort has confirmed a partnership with the San Francisco Giants for the spring training program.
The link-up will provide significant branding opportunities for We-Ko-Pai, as well as fan initiatives for upcoming games. It is a further step in the brand development strategy for the Fort McDowell, Arizona-based resort, following its recent agreement with Internet Sports International (ISI).
We-Ko-Pa becomes the official spring training partner of the Giants, with the leisure and gaming destination receiving prominent in-ballpark signage, premium hospitality opportunities, and fan engagement openings.
At the Giants’ games on March 21 and 22, the casino will receive significant exposure and a chance to connect with the public in a special on-site promotion.
Harold Baugus, We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort general manager, said the partnership with the storied Major League Baseball team would go a long way to help the company connect with out-of-town visitors and to take advantage of the spring training period.
He added, “We are looking forward to introducing even more guests to our one-stop vacation destination, particularly with summer staycations just around the corner.”
As part of the partnership, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation President Sandra Pattea will throw the ceremonial first pitch on 21 March, when the Giants line up in the park against the Cleveland Guardians.
Balanced with responsible gaming practicesThis latest collaboration comes at a time of rising concern about the growing presence of gambling sponsorships in sports.
There is concern for the integrity of the games amid a rising gambling-related threat against athletes, which is prompting calls for action.
The MLB and other authorities may be required to step in and introduce effective preventative measures that may have a knock-on effect on such partnerships with sportsbooks.
We-Ko-Pa’s separate agreement with ISI means an enhanced sportsbook offering to supplement the Giants opportunity and connect with bettors, but this has to be balanced with responsible gaming practices and requirements to uphold sporting integrity.
