Windows 11 now comes with a built-in IT guy

Microsoft’s new Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) in Windows 11 aims to automatically resolve boot failures, eliminating user panic. Available in the latest Windows 11 Insider build, QMR is designed for both IT administrators and home users.

QMR leverages the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to automatically address boot-up issues. Instead of requiring manual activation of WinRE, QMR initiates the process automatically when a critical boot problem arises.

Here’s how it works: the PC enters WinRE mode, connects to the network, and sends diagnostic data to Microsoft. A specific fix, tailored to the diagnostic data, is then sent back to the PC via Windows Update. If successful, the PC should boot normally.

Windows 11 will now roast your PC for being too slow

A key advantage of QMR is its ability to run remotely and automatically. IT administrators can remotely administer fixes to PCs within their organization, while home users benefit from Microsoft-managed fixes without manual troubleshooting. This feature is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, initially announced at Ignite 2024 last November.

Microsoft encourages IT staff and Windows Insiders to test QMR and provide feedback via the Feedback Hub in Windows. Testers can expect a test remediation package in the coming days to assess QMR’s performance.
