WWE Evolution is back for the first time since 2018, as the all-women’s event is set to air this coming weekend. With some of the most popular wrestlers on the roster now being women like Rhea Ripley, Becky Lynch, and Alexa Bliss, it was high time that WWE returned to the well.
The event will combine both main roster talent, with NXT, and presumably, much like every other women’s special event, feature legacy stars. Odds are all over the place in the legacy star respect, with some sportsbooks still housing a fondness for AJ Lee, who hasn’t appeared in a ring since 2015.
However, the weekend is stacked for wrestling. Not only is WWE running Evolution on Sunday, but it’ll be competing against rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on Saturday. WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, will be running The Great American Bash and followed by Saturday Night’s Main Event. This will be headlined by Goldberg’s retirement match against Gunther.
Back to Evolution, though, the card is looking decent, and here’s the odds.
Odds sourced from BetOnline and Paddy Power. This isn’t gambling advice.
WWE Evolution betting odds Women’s World ChampionshipThe Battle Royal will presumably feature some surprises, as we mentioned above, and only 15 entrants have been confirmed. SmackDown is yet to air to confirm anyone else, so we’ve highlighted those with odds already supplied by sportsbooks and actually on the roster.
Let’s get that Battle Royal out of the way. The match is for a championship match at Clash in Paris, set for August 31. With this in mind, it’s highly likely that we’ll see Stephanie Vaquer topple the competition, as WWE has been very big on her recently. The Chilean star has been on fire since entering the WWE, with her patented “Devil’s Kiss” getting a big reaction from the crowd, along with just her entire vibe.
It would be an excellent notch in her early WWE career and position her as incredibly powerful amongst the roster. During her time in NXT, she was a double champion on top of being very over with the crowd. I can see WWE getting her into the main event scene as fast as possible before the allure fades.
As for the No Holds Barred match, it should be Naomi besting Cargill here, just to keep her legitimized for when she cashes in that Money in the Bank contract during a championship match.
Cargill’s time in WWE has been muted, to say the least. A supposed injury took her out for a while, and her matches have highlighted that she might have a little ways to go before being placed in the spotlight properly.
The Judgement Day is fine without Liv MorganThe four-way tag match will be incredibly interesting. There are multiple ways it could go since Liv Morgan was put out of commission since her shoulder injury. Originally, Morgan was to face a returning Nikki Bella, but with the injury, the leader of Morgan’s group, The Judgement Day, Finn Balor, introduced Roxanne Perez.
Perez has taken over Morgan’s slot as tag-team champion alongside Rodriguez in the meantime, and a large focus for The Judgement Day’s segments in recent weeks has been all about how they’re collecting the gold. Balor and JD are the Tag Champs for the Men, and Dom Mysterio is the Intercontinental Champ.
Odds do have The Judgement Day as coming out on top, which makes some sense. It’d be a good long-term booking for WWE to ensure that when Morgan does return, the status quo she had manipulated into place was no longer a factor.
For the other competitors, having The Judgement Day continue as champs could lead to splits between Bliss and Flair, and give Asuka and Sane something to do on the show each week. Which, honestly, it’d be good to have a regular roll of good matches on these weekly shows, which have quickly become stagnant in recent months.
WWE wheels out Stratus once againThere isn’t much to say about the Tiffany Stratton and Trish Stratus match. This is just to get some views in, with a WWE Legend once again taking up a slot that should be given to the bulging roster of full-time wrestlers. Stratton should win this, as this is clearly a match to give her the “rub” by beating a fan favourite.
Stratus, who is brought in a couple of times a year at most, will not hold a WWE belt. If she does, I think I’d have to eat a piece of clothing.
Jordynne Grace and the NXT conundrumOver on the NXT side of things, we’re in a weird gray area. Jordynne Grace was reported to be moving up to the main roster last month, as Vaquer did. The typical way that those heading out of NXT tend to go is on their back, effectively failing upwards. However, Grace has yet to appear on regular TV and is now involved with the recently rebranded Mariah May (an ex-AEW wrestler), Blake Monroe.
Sentiment from the online audience is that Jacy Jane is a transitional champion while NXT’s creative builds up Monroe. By having Grace win the belt at Evolution, it’d be a great stamp of approval for the main crowd and further legitimise her outside of her TNA championships.
It would then potentially lead to a feud with Monroe, with Grace dropping the belt to what is clearly the next big project for NXT in the next few months.
Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch would be the obvious choicesThe Intercontinental Championship triple-threat is also one that I can see going the obvious route. With Lynch very much the favorite to win, it seems that could be the path forward. It would continue to push the Lyra/Becky/Bayley feud forward, adding a new wrinkle for the challengers who can’t seem to get out of each other’s way.
As for the Women’s World Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky, it would be unfortunate for Sky to lose here. She’s put on some excellent matches and has definitely won over the crowd. However, Ripley is on fire recently.
Merch sales are massive, her social media presence is fuelled by a mixture of those longing for her and fans of who she is. Take that as you will. WWE would be stupid not to capitalise on this, despite the fact that Iyo Sky could very easily still have a lot to do as champ going forward.
WWE Evolution airs Sunday, 7 ET/4 PT, on Peacock in the US and Netflix internationally.
