Xbox games on PS5 and Switch 2? Get used to it

Microsoft’s Xbox is expanding its reach by releasing games on more devices, like the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. This initiative kicked off last year with titles such as Pentiment and Grounded on Switch, and Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush on PS5.

The Verge’s senior editor, Tom Warren, reports that this strategy will ramp up in 2025. Warren initially revealed Microsoft’s consideration of a PS5 release for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle before Bethesda’s Gamescom announcement.

Warren stated, “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s release on PS5 is part of a broader effort from Microsoft to bring more Xbox games to rival platforms. Microsoft first started launching previous Xbox-exclusive titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded on PS5 last year, and 2025 will include a lot more titles appearing on both PS5 and Nintendo’s Switch 2.”

Xbox plans to release Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the PlayStation 5 next month. Additionally, games from Bethesda and Activision’s libraries, such as DOOM: The Dark Ages and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, will be coming in 2025.

Microsoft’s Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, expressed his enthusiasm earlier this year about the Switch 2 and Xbox’s multiplatform future. Rumors have also suggested that Xbox might bring a variety of first-party IPs to the Switch successor.

Reports have surfaced about Xbox potentially releasing a partner handheld in 2025, with plans for its own portable system later on.
