Apple is going all in on AI as they aim to jumpstart iPhone sales ahead of the iPhone 16 release, amidst a slow down in sales.
It was on Monday (September 9) when the technology giant revealed the latest mobile offering which includes a camera button on the outside of the handset. The button is expected to be a clue to further changes made by Apple to bring in artificial intelligence.
In the promotional materials released following the event, the upcoming debut has been described as having been “built for Apple Intelligence to help you write, express yourself and get things done effortlessly.”
While the firm is now going through the adoption process of the newly emerged technology, it’s on the heels of other brands who have already integrated generative AI into their products.
While the company has long been referred to as an industry leader, there are concerns it’s losing its touch as technology continues to advance.
Sales of the iPhone have stalled in previous months, with a 1% decrease over the nine months ended June 29 compared with a year earlier.
The company will be hoping its AI addition will boost the numbers and provide a fresh take on the phone that has been in the hands of millions since 2007. The iPhone maker’s share price fell 1% during Monday’s ‘Glowtime’ event.
What AI integrations will Apple include for the iPhone 16?The almost two-hour long event contained announcements about the next wave of Apple products, including the iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple Watch Ultra, AirPods, and AirPods Max.
The next installment of the phone will be released in December and is described by the company as being a “personal intelligence system.”
The AI tools include Writing Tools, Summaries, Priority Messages in Mail, Genmoji, Clean Up, Image Playground App, and new ‘superpowers’ for Siri.
Along with the AI, the phone has a “new 16-core Neural engine” which aims to be more efficient for Apple Intelligence. Its total system memory bandwidth has been improved up, with a 20% increase making it the highest ever in an iPhone. It also has a new 6-core CPU and GPU to enhance graphics performance and run complex workloads.
