Rumored and leaked in early June, then confirmed in July, at last we can see how Beetlejuice will perform as the latest character joining Warner Bros.’ Smash-like MultiVersus.
The Ghost With the Most lands on the free-to-play fighting game’s roster on Aug. 20, about three weeks before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel to the 1988 original, hits theaters.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play game; new characters are either sold in an in-game store or unlocked in the game’s Battle Pass. Player First Games did not say how Beetlejuice will be unlocked once he joins the game. The last character added to the roster, Samurai Jack, was unlocked in the premium Season 2 Battle Pass.
Beetlejuice will play as an assassin-type character — think Harley Quinn or Arya Stark if you’ve played this game. He’s got a lot of zany special attacks to go with the standard moves and strikes, including a jacket that explodes into spikes, and a set of awoogah-eyeballs that appear to blow Steven Universe off the board.
What moveset does Beetlejuice have in MultiVersus?
A news release from Warner Bros. Games says Beetlejuice possesses the “ability to summon beetles and sandworms to assist during battle, protrude spikes from all over his body to inflict pain, and charge up devastating overhead hammers to slam down on opponents.”
Personally, I’m a bit disappointed he doesn’t bludgeon opponents with a giant Zagnut, but I guess they couldn’t license that from Hershey in time.
The trailer also shows two of what will likely be more alternate costumes for Beetlejuice, as well as the fact existing characters can wear his black-and-white striped getup, too. This ought to make things real confusing if you put Joker in that suit, by the way.
