English soccer hero Rio Ferdinand has joined forces with a British tech firm to promote an innovative blockchain solution to counter the rising threat of counterfeit soccer jerseys and associated merchandise.

Cifr.io has made a breakthrough, utilizing blockchain-powered microchip technology, to provide a next-generation authentication standard to ensure fans can obtain genuine products while protecting soccer clubs and other organizations from lost revenue.

In the modern age, online marketplaces provide countless sources of fake kits. When one is closed down, another opens. It is a tangled web that is difficult to completely eradicate.

With cost pressures on fans, it can be a tempting offer to pay a reduced sum for the latest release, but the trade-off is insufficient quality with doubts on who is actually benefitting from the funds.

In other cases, fans can be duped, thinking they are supporting their favorite team, but instead,d they are left disappointed and out of pocket.

Fans deserve the real thing

Cifr has responded to an increasing threat, as previous methods such as barcodes, holograms, and QR codes have proven to be penetrable to the fraudsters.

The patented blockchain microchip tech is embedded directly into the soccer jersey and is transferable across all merchandise product lines.

Fans can scan the chip with their phones for instant verification of authenticity with the added bonus of exclusive access to club content and incentives. This could include player and coach interviews, retail discounts, and other links, opening up a fresh marketing stream.

Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United and England defender, said, “Counterfeit football shirts are damaging the game at every level.

He continued, “As a player, you know how much passion and support fans bring to the game, and they deserve the real thing, not cheap imitations. Cifr.io’s technology ensures authenticity while also enhancing fan engagement. It’s a game-changer.”
