Behind Glass

If you are into fish tanks, tropical, marine or freshwater, you may be surprised to learn that there is a “game” that will let you play around with with your hobby without needing to worry about troublesome algae or chemical water balances.

Behind Glass: Aquarium Simulator has been around in Early Access for a good while but today the devs at BitBros Inc has pushed the version 1 of the sim, added a load of new species as well as giving us some turtles and axolotls to play with in our tanks.

Aquascaping has become hugely popular on YouTube recently with influencers building tanks from things such as vases from Ikea, right down to drinking glasses for things such as mini terrariums or shrimp keeping.

While you can get basic, no-filter setups going in your own home relatively cheaply, you still need an initial outlay and, you still need to spend time maintaining your little ecosystems.

Behind Glass

If you have always fancied a go at keeping fish and aquatic plants, Behind Glass gives you a virtual taster of whether it is for you or not. If you are more experienced, you can use it to try out tank ideas before attempting to set them up for real.

Where Behind Glass really gets interesting is that it, “stands apart with its immersive water chemistry simulation, allowing players to delve into the science behind aquarium care. Adjust pH, salinity, and other parameters to create the perfect conditions for your aquatic friends. For those who prefer a more relaxed approach, the sandbox mode offers the freedom to focus on design and aesthetics without any constraints.”

So if you are into the chemistry aspect of things you can really go to town on working out your nitrates and the like.

Just like real aquariums, you can do pretty much anything you choose as this is a fishkeeping sandbox rather than a game, everything is unlocked from the off so you can start building your dream setup for the get-go.

To celebrate the launch, Behind Glass is a little bit cheaper on Steam with 15% off until 22nd January and will set you back around $15 right now.
