EVE Online 2025 Roadmap: New expansions, Freelance Projects, and sandbox evolution

EVE Online continues to be the game I want to play the most, but know I don’t have the time, and probably wherewithal to make a decent fist of it. That however is different to the millions of players who are constantly embroiled in CCP Game’s permo-universe,

Keeping all those players occupied year after year is now easy task and the devs have no revealed the roadmap for EVE for this year and it is suitably ambitious.

Featuring two brand-new expansions and the return of a popular fan event, it’s safe to say the Icelandic devs might not be seeing as much of those fabled Midnight Sun days, where the sun never fully sets.

“This year, we’re putting even more power in the hands of our capsuleers,” said Snorri Árnason, Game Director for EVE Online. “From customizing sovereign space to crafting missions that spark new alliances, the 2025 roadmap is all about letting players create and shape their own moments, their own stories and ultimately being part of the history books of New Eden itself. EVE Online has always been a living universe driven by its community, and with the new tools and systems we’re introducing, the potential for creativity and collaboration has never been greater.”

As the Revenant narrative arc continues to unfold, the rising tension between the Deathless and the Drifters will lead to the next expansion for EVE Online, arriving in Summer 2025.

New Freelance Projects will introduce new levels of cooperation by allowing pilots to create and complete missions for other capsuleers. This new system will create emergent opportunities for storytelling, conflict, exploration, and relationship-building within EVE Online, through activities like mercenary contracts and collaborative ventures.

The future of war will continue to be reshaped with the addition of new ships, tactical objectives, and tools for all fleet sizes, pushing EVE’s signature sandbox to new heights as both small and large fleets find opportunities to thrive.
