Gamers hated Activision’s Operation: Take down H2M mod

DATE POSTED:August 16, 2024
 Take down H2M mod

The H2M mod has recently captured the attention of the gaming community, particularly fans of the Call of Duty franchise.

Born out of a passion for recreating and enhancing the multiplayer experience of Modern Warfare 2, the H2M mod was an ambitious project that aimed to bring back the iconic features of the original game while utilizing the upgraded engine of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered.

However, this promising project met an abrupt and unfortunate end when Activision issued a cease and desist order to the developers. This move has not only halted the development of the H2M mod but has also sparked widespread disappointment among players who were eagerly awaiting its release.

Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project. We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently.

What is CoD H2M mod?

The concept of the H2M mod originated from a simple desire: to revive the beloved multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare 2, a game that holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. When Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was released in 2020, it included only the single-player campaign, leaving out the highly anticipated online multiplayer mode.

This decision was met with considerable backlash from the community, as many considered the multiplayer experience to be the highlight of the original game. In response to this, a group of dedicated modders set out to create the H2M mod, which would allow players to enjoy the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer experience once again, this time with the added benefits of modern graphics and improved gameplay mechanics provided by the Modern Warfare Remastered engine.

The H2M mod was not just a simple recreation; it was an extensive project that aimed to include over 50 maps, a full Modern Warfare 2 progression system, new attachments, gun camos, and the original killstreaks that made the game so memorable.

The developers behind the mod worked tirelessly to ensure that it would deliver a faithful yet enhanced multiplayer experience, capturing the essence of the original game while introducing new features that would appeal to both old and new players.

Despite the enormous potential and the positive reception the H2M mod had garnered even before its release, the project was abruptly halted when Activision issued a cease and desist order to the developers. On August 15, 2024, the team behind the mod announced via social media that they had received the legal order from Activision, forcing them to shut down all operations immediately.

This news came as a shock to many in the community, who had been eagerly anticipating the release of the mod and had even purchased Modern Warfare Remastered in preparation for its launch.

The reaction from the gaming community was swift and overwhelmingly negative. Many players took to social media to express their frustration and disappointment, with some even requesting refunds for their recent purchases of Modern Warfare Remastered.

The game’s review status on Steam quickly shifted to “overwhelmingly negative,” reflecting the dissatisfaction of the community. The abrupt shutdown of the H2M mod highlighted the ongoing tension between fan-created content and corporate interests, raising questions about the future of modding within the Call of Duty franchise and beyond.

Beware of the scams

The developers of the H2M mod have made it clear that they are no longer working on the project and that any attempts to revive it or seek donations in its name are fraudulent.

The official H2M mod X account issued a stern warning to the community, stating:

“BEWARE. Anyone trying to pretend to be H2M is not us, we’re done”

This message was intended to alert fans to the growing number of scams circulating online and to prevent anyone from falling victim to these deceptive schemes.
