Finally, Google adds simple yet effective AI features to Chrome. Google Lens on desktop: Search anything, anytime

Android’s innovative AI feature, “Circle to Search,” has made its way to Google Chrome on desktop and Chromebooks under the new name, “Drag to Search.” Ever seen something online and instantly wanted to know more? Well, Google Lens is here to make that easier than ever! Whether you’re curious about a plant’s name, solving a tricky math equation, or hunting down the perfect backpack, just click the Lens icon in the address bar, drag over the image, and let the magic happen. Instantly get visual matches and deep-dive details right in the side panel.

The feature, currently available in the Chrome Canary 128 beta, allows users to highlight anything on their screen to initiate a search using Google Lens. Although still in the testing phase, it’s expected to roll out to the stable version of Chrome soon. When it’s available, all you need to do is:

• Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner, then select ‘Search with Google Lens.’
• After clicking Continue, your cursor will turn into a crosshair, allowing you to drag and highlight any object or text on your screen.
• Once you’ve made your selection, release the mouse button to initiate the search, and relevant results will appear on the right side of the screen.

You can also use this feature to translate or copy text by highlighting the desired area and selecting the appropriate option. For quick access, you can pin the Google Lens icon to your toolbar, making it even easier to utilize this versatile tool.

Tab Compare: A new shopping hack?

Sick of jumping between tabs to compare products? Chrome’s new Tab Compare feature is your solution. It gathers all the juicy details—like specs, prices, and reviews—into one convenient place. Shopping for a Bluetooth speaker or any other gadget has never been easier. Just click for a side-by-side comparison.

Google Chrome’s “Tab Compare” feature is set to debut in the United States in the coming weeks, with a broader rollout expected in the following months. This feature is initially limited to shopping categories and supports up to 10 items at a time.

Conversational History Search: Find that lost tab

Can’t remember that awesome website you visited last week? No problem! Chrome’s new conversational history search has you covered. Just type something like, “What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?” and Chrome will pull up the relevant pages from your browsing history. It’s a game-changer for rediscovering lost gems. And don’t worry, your privacy is protected—this feature doesn’t track your incognito sessions.

AI-enhanced browsing isn’t new, but Chrome’s approach is refreshingly user-friendly. By pressing Ctrl+H and typing a description, users can easily find websites without scrolling through a long list. Unlike Microsoft’s controversial Recall feature, Chrome’s history search respects privacy by excluding incognito data. This feature and Circle to Search for Android and Tab Compare will be available to US users in the coming weeks.
