Lego Outrun could become a thing if enough people back the idea

Lego Outrun

OutRun is probably one of the most well-known retro games of all time, up there with Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. The arcade racer that was ported to pretty much every system in the 80s, many of them badly, still has a super loyal following today.

The Cannonball project has completely rewritten the game’s original engine and allows you to play it in all its glory but with modern-day quality-of-life improvements such as 60fps and widescreen support. It may even be coming back as a reboot in the future.

The point being, that a lot of people still love OutRun, which is why a lot of people are going to be excited that the possibility of a Lego set recreating the iconic start screen of the game could be about to happen.

Using the Lego Ideas platform creators can suggest and model potential Lego sets they think will be popular. If over 10,000 people support them, the good folks at Lego will review the idea and see if it is feasible to turn it into a reality. Of course, there are a few caveats in there as well but that’s the gist.

Some of the most iconic Lego of recent years have come through the scheme including Women of NASA, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Big Bang Theory and hopefully, this cool OutRun project will soon join them.

Featuring 1735 bricks, designer Jugles has already amassed over 1,000 votes and has the next 404 days to hit his first target number.

He says of his idea, “I wanted to try to recreate the iconic starting scene from OutRun Stage 1 as well as giving it my own twist. The build consists of 1735 bricks forming a diorama playing with perspective. The frame of the build is meant to resemble an arcade machine. The joystick is movable and linked with the car to make it possible to slightly shift the car from side to side.”

To lend the project your support you need to create an account on the Lego sign, visit the project page and cast your free vote. Then, pop it on your Christmas list for 2025 and hope.
