The Nintendo Switch 2 from all angles

Tags: new video
DATE POSTED:January 16, 2025

Well, when we finally got our announcement from Nintendo it was light on details and heavy on images. We may not know when the Switch 2 comes out, what will work on it or how much it will cost – we will have to wait until at least the 2nd of April for that, but besides a quick glimpse of Mario Kart, one thing we did get was a really good view of the new console.

So let’s have a in-depth look at the Nintendo Switch 2 from all angles, without having to keep hitting the Pause button to see what we can see.

Switch 2 – every angle examined

We have forensically dissected the launch video and pulled out all the best frames that show the new Switch off in the most detail. Let’s have a look at what we have spotted.

Switch 2

The Switch 2’s new look case

First up from the back of the unit we see the new logo and can  make out the kickstand tucked in aesthetically at the bottom. The all-black design of this unit at least tips a wink to a more mature gaming period for Nintendo.

A new era for Nintendo Joy Cons

The garish red and blue joy cons are out of here and instead we get nice matching black ones, with the clever touch that the original color scheme has now been used as accents around the stick and on the connector. It looks lovely to be honest. There is also a central connector on both sides that the new controllers slot into. Please God they have fixed stick drifting, but man they look nice.

Front on we see just how well everything looks together. The Switch is all grown up and we are proud of it. With handheld competition from the PC gaming market with the ROG Ally and Steam Deck, maybe Nintendo has worked out that handhelds don’t have to look like toys anymore.

Switch Front on

The accenting on the controllers really works well here and we like the choice of all black buttons blending into the shell.

The multi-positional kickstand

Now for the kickstand. It doesn’t look the sturdiest but we can see there is support right under the join that should keep things upright for all but the clumsiest. The image below also shows it is multi-position and can lie down in a different position too. It is here we get a slightly better view of the mechanism.

The Switch 2’s new screen

Nintendo aren’t giving anything away about the size or hardware specs of the new Switch 2 screen as yet – we are going to have to wait for that it seems although the leaks will surely flood out now. We can see a rather thin bezel here however lending to the overall great cohesion of the new machine.

The Docking station

Finally, the briefest of glimpses of the new dock with the new Switch 2 logo printed in glossy black on the matte finish. The dock has matching rounded curves to the Switch 2 – gone is the blockyness of the older sibling. This is a Switch for the next generation.
