OpenAI confirms new ChatGPT app for Windows with universal access
OpenAI has confirmed its ChatGPT app for Windows is now available to all users.
The service was previously restricted to paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers, but it has been opened up to all users of Windows 10 and 11.
A dedicated Windows app is likely to be welcomed by many, to move beyond the existing web functionality. The new tool means PC users can open a “companion window” on screen, to work alongside various Windows programs or other open tabs, with no subscription required.
As reported by PC Mag, OpenAI product developer Alex Embiricos provided more detail on how the companion works.
“It’s a little window you can pull up by pressing Alt + space,” he said.
“It’s really easy to start a new chat without breaking your flow, pick up where you left off, or ask follow-up questions,” added Embiricos.
