OverProtocol, a Layer 1 blockchain, has successfully activated its mainnet on September 4th.
The project aims to create a user-friendly environment where anyone can easily participate in new P2P financial systems without requiring specialized expertise. The core development team, Superblock, has raised $8 million in funding to develop this blockchain, focusing on node optimization techniques and creating a comprehensive ecosystem to lower entry barriers for everyday users.
To mark this milestone, OverProtocol, in partnership with leading crypto industry companies GSR and Jambo, will host an event called “HangOver” on September 5th. HangOver is expected to be one of the most exciting side events at KBW 2024, Korea’s premier cryptocurrency event.
Prior to the mainnet launch, OverProtocol ran two testnets, attracting over 700,000 participants who engaged in Palm Staking via the OverWallet app, enabling mobile crypto staking on the blockchain. Additionally, more than 40,000 users operated OverNode, a lightweight node client, on their personal computers, acting as validators on the blockchain network through Home Staking.
Following the mainnet activation, OverFlex and OverScape, two key ecosystem applications, will be updated at the end of September. OverFlex, a super app that combines OverWallet with a marketplace for Real-World Assets (RWA), is expected to be central to OverProtocol’s vision. OverScape, the rebranded version of OverNode, symbolizes the start of a new P2P internet era integrated with finance, reminiscent of how the Netscape browser revolutionized personal internet access.
In addition, a large-scale airdrop will take place after the updates at the end of September. Ben (Jae-Yun) Kim, the founder of OverProtocol, mentioned that this airdrop will reward community members who have contributed to the ecosystem over the past year. Following the airdrop, various community events will be organized to create a blockchain environment that everyone can experience and enjoy in their daily lives
