Well, it was always going to be a bit of a buggy mess wasn’t it? We aren’t really sure it was ever going to be anything else at launch, but history tells us eventually we should get a fine game.
One of the initial problems out of the traps that many Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl players are facing is that the game is just too dark for them to see virtually anything.
Firstly, problems aside, Stalker 2 is a dark game anyway and you can use your flashlight to good effect – find out how best to operate it right here – but there does seem to be an issue that needs a little patcheroo to sort out and that revolves around the HDR not working.
HDR not working in Stalker 2Now we haven’t managed to get any clarity on how many players it is affecting right now but HDR definitely seems to be on the borked side for some – we just don’t know what the hardware mix that is triggering the problem is right now.
The problems start with people not being able to turn on HDR in Windowed Mode. Others are reporting it works fine in full-screen mode but your mileage may vary.
Yet more people are reporting that even with it on, it just makes the screen’s contrast all weird and white.
If the game is too dark for you and your HDR control in the options menu is not grayed out for you, then turn it off and hopefully this will get you better clarity. The game is still dark but should render up a little more like you might expect it to.
You might need to make sure your game is in exclusive full-screen mode to get the HDR toggle to activate, so it you can’t use it, check you aren’t set in Windowed mode first.
