Stinky workspace? ASUS has a solution for that – meet its new Fragrance Mouse

DATE POSTED:February 24, 2025
ASUS's Fragrance Mouse

I have checked and re-checked the date. Maybe I missed a few weeks and we have arrived at April Fool’s Day. Maybe there is some cheeky monkey with access to ASUS’ website who just likes to create random product pages who knows? But assuming this is real, and there are no outwardly signs it’s not, we will soon be able to buy a mouse with its own built-in Fragrance Vial where you can insert essential oils that will gently seep out and de-stink your gaming area, infusing you with calmness, and zen.

Ignoring the obvious desire I have to have been in the product meeting where this was signed off, it seems companies are now starting to go to such great lengths to differentiate the products, that the mixing of two completely different feature sets that have no real place together – computer mice and, well, air fresheners is going to become the norm.

I’m also unsure I want my right hand in such close proximity to this emitter all day. I don’t want to pay for my Starbucks, reach out and see the barista’s face as they get an overpowering waft of lavender as I Apple Pay for my latte.

It’s just a bit weird.

Despite having a page on the ASUS site spotted by PC Gamer, there is not too much detail (and by that, no detail) about when the Fragrance Mouse MD101 will be released or how much it will cost.

There are some photos which show it to come in muted matte pastel colors, and it looks like a nice mouse. The colors are in fact Iridescent White or Rose Clay which sounds like they have fell off a Paint chart.

The blurb reads, “ASUS Fragrance Mouse MD101 is a compact, versatile mouse that features an ergonomic, low-noise design, it is the first ASUS mouse that boasts an internal fragrance compartment with a refillable vial for aromatic oils and scents.A fragrance compartment at the bottom of the mouse houses a vial that can be filled with aromatic oils for a unique, personalized aroma.”

There is an asterisk to a warning which reads, “Do not use 100% pure essential oils. Please choose essential oils for reed diffusers, ultrasonic diffusers, and aroma stones.

We aren’t sure what happens if you hit up the pure stuff but it doesn’t sound good. Also… a “low-noise mouse”?

Besides that, we get changeable DPI, Bluetooth, and, more importantly, a battery life of up to 12 months which is great. There’s no real clue about the fragrance-diffusing technology.

Will we ever find out? This is one teardown I would love to see.
