There’s finally a new FIFA game coming, and this time it is on the Blockchain – meet FIFA Rivals

DATE POSTED:November 22, 2024
FIFA Rivals

It still seems strange talking about FIFA video games in a different breath to the decades of EA Sports offerings under that moniker. But times they move on, and EAFC is now entrenched in its second year and FIFA has been without a game since.

2025 will see a change in the wind for that, albeit with FIFA Rivals, a game designed for mobile that will, gulp, be part of the Blockchain.

If you don’t know what that means it’s best not to concern your pretty little head with it, but FIFA Rivals will have Mythos Blockchain Integration which, to all intents and purposes means you will be able to own and trade your players for cash in in-game marketplaces. This all sounds scary right, especially for a mobile game but this will hopefully be offset by the fact that FIFA Rivals will ditch the “simulation” aspect of FIFAs of old and head straight for a full-scale arcade-style of game. And it will be free to play at face value.

The new, official FIFARivals X account just posted, “The next era of football gaming is coming! FIFA Rivals will bring the ultimate football experience to your hands. Build your squad, dominate the competition, and create your legacy in the newest title from @playmythical – Stay tuned, your journey to greatness is just around the corner.”

Around the corner seems to be being billed as Summer 2025, presumably before the season kicks off in the main leagues.

There’s a lot of excitable commercial speak from people who will never have kicked a ball for real around “owning the pitch”, “a new chapter in football” and “hitting the pitch”, alongside plentiful use of the word “dominate” and not much else at the moment.

Mythical Games is already responsible for NFL Rivals so getting the FIFA brand on board is another big coup for the company that started out a few years ago with Blankos – a kind of Funko Pop NFT/Blockchain game that was actually quite fun at the time.

FIFA, for its part,  will be hoping that this next toe into the gaming waters will be even a fraction as successful as its last.
