Ultrakill developers, New Blood Interactive, have released a new graphics update called Ultra Revamp.
A trailer was uploaded to YouTube highlighting changes coming to the fast-paced first-person shooter. Changes include improved visuals, new levels, advanced AI behavior, and more.
The Ultra Revamp update was released on February 24, 2025, and is available to download for free.
On the Ultrakill Steam page, a post was made by the developers addressing the changes coming to the game.
Big Dave, from the Ultrakill development team, said: “Much of Ultrakill’s codebase was very messy, especially the enemy behaviors. So much so that not only would it make it harder for us (and modders) to work on the game in the future, but even for us to do some of the new things we wanted to do in Layer 8.
“So we (Pitr, Heckteck, and the New Blood programming team) decided to rewrite (revamp) it!”
A comparison video was released alongside the trailer showcasing the advanced graphics. Environments boast greater detail, lighting has been reworked, and some models have been reworked from the ground up. The developers have also pointed out how the update improves the game’s performance as well.
What else is in the Ultra Revamp update?Ultrakill has released several updates on Steam since it was first released on September 3, 2020. New Blood Interactive promises that the Ultra Revamp update will bring more than visual improvements to the chaotic shooter game.
Ultrakill will see three new songs from Australian rock band King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, some of which were played in the reveal trailer.
The game will also see two new Encore levels added for players to experience. The rest of the levels will be released in post launch updates and will be available for free
Big Dave said: “Encore levels, which you may previously think of as mere replayable levels with radiant enemies… are now so much more.
“They don’t look anything like the levels they’re based on, they don’t play anything like the levels they’re based on, and they’re about 10x harder than the levels they’re based on.”
