Hardcore first-person shooting RPG Witchfire has been popular on the Epic Games Store for a while now. Its old-school vibe combined with next-gen graphics and blood, lots and lots of blood has attracted a lot of players to it, looking for that modern-day Doom vibe.
But has this fine dark fantasy RPG shooter from The Astronauts got multiplayer? Or are you destined to roam this satanic land alone, with only yourself for company to hear the screams? Let’s have a look shall we?
What is Witchfire? Before we get into the game modes, if you haven’t heard of Witchfire, which is entirely possible due to its limited exclusive release on Epic Games Store up to now, we should probably catch you up with the plot first.
Witchfire sees you play as a wicked sinner turned witch-hunter on his final mission to reach salvation. It is a blend of shooter, souls-like, and extraction genres, and even so soon after its release has nabbed itself a Very Positive rating on Steam so far.
Is Witchfire multiplayer?Like the best FPS games of yore, Witchfire is a single-player experience. No squads, no teaming up, and no camping going on here. It’s out and out single-player blasting fun and frolics in a gloriously demonic setting.
Is Witchfire coming to PlayStation and Xbox?At the moment Witchfire is PC only, available on Steam and Epic Games Store but The Astronauts plan to bring it to console at the end of Early Access. This is hoped to be around the end of 2024. Early Access was expected to last around 12 months and we are approaching that date now.
The devs recently said on Steam, “We plan to add more biomes, bosses, enemies, and weapons to the full version of Witchfire. Additionally, the final release should include a complete story, which is the primary difference from the Early Access version which focuses mainly on gameplay with only fragments of lore and narrative.
We also anticipate that the final version will be more polished and better balanced. We already released major updates and will continue to do so, each introducing new content as well as Quality of Life improvements, balancing adjustments, and player-requested updates.”
